Qatar recently issued a law governing real estate developments in Qatar. Under this law, real estate developers will face severe penalties for violating rules and norms. According to the law, a developer who fails to hand over units to buyers within the deadline set forth in the agreement without justifiable reasons, or if the sold units do not fulfil the technical standards stated in the contract, will be subject to one-year imprisonment or a fine not exceeding QR 50,000, or both. The same punishment applies to any person who sells real estate units showing fake designs or who receives loans without approval from the authorities concerned.
